Light and Bright!

We are finished painting kitchen cabinets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  YAY!!!!  So I thought I'd show you how much brighter our kitchen looks =)  Before we had the builder grade cherry finish cabinets.

From the above picture you can not tell how damaged the cabinets are close up.  So here are a few of those shots as well:
This first pic is the absolute worst.  Believe it or not, if I kept it oiled up with some Murphey's Oil you couldn't tell a thing!

And here is another:

And the last one shows some sun damage:

Now for the lighter, brighter version!  I tried to get some shots over the weekend when I could get some natural light.  I had a model jump in this photo shoot.  Don't mind her.  To her momma, she only adds to the beauty;-)

Proof, I DO clean my kitchen!  ;-)

So let's recap:
BEFORE...Dark, Scratched up, Dreary

AFTER:  Light, Bright, Cheery!
Don't mind the prints on the fridge.  I have 2 little ones who LOVE to make a mess.  LOL!
So compared to the dark cherry wood that ALWAYS needed a good slop of Murpheys Oil.  These are MUCH better!  =)  Next up is replacing countertops and maybe the kitchen sink.  Don't miss the next post on the cabinets.  I need some help picking out coutnertops!  =)
So what do you think so far??

*** I will be linking up with the parties on my side bar!  Check them out. Always good stuff there!***

  1. Really nice. So much lighter and brighter. There is nothing more depressing than working in a dark kitchen with dinged up cabinets. Way to go!

  2. Great job!! It's tough, but totally worth it. I can't get over how similar your kitchen is to mine! What color did you use on the cabs? I have a weekend linky party and would love to see you there! http://www.lovelycraftyhome.com

  3. oh my gosh, it looks great! my kitchen is dark with a soffet like yours, but unfortunately (fortunately?) i won't be painting them b/c the wood is in good shape. i hate my soffets, but maybe i can add decorative wood to the fronts like yours have. so glad i saw this, and great job on your new bright space!

  6. popped over from weekend wrap up party. what a transformation! we did a kitchen facelift last year and painted our cabinet's white too. i love them. we actually had nice wood, but they were dated and i knew i would be happier with a brighter look. (take a peek here: http://www.annaleahart.com/2010/03/kitchen-faceliftcomplete-kinda.html ) anyway, great job!!!

  7. Your cabinets look really lovely! I have done two kitchens now - painted the yucky cabinets white. It makes such a HUGE difference! I don't like how the dirt is a lot more noticeable, so I have to clean them more often - but the trade off is worth it! I only wish I hadn't changed out the hinges - just spray painted them! Lesson learned. You did a great job!

  13. Love love love!!!!! Did you do this yourself? I am always amazed at the kitchen makeovers I see. Our cabinets are maple, and are OK.. but I would prefer if they were white, but I am not ready to brave it myself. Great job!

  14. Beautiful! Saw your pic on tatertots & jello and had to check out your kitchen! We want to paint our honey oak cabinets white this fall after our wedding, so I'm always searching for inspiration. Like you, we also have black appliances. I've had a hard time finding photos of white kitchens with black appliances to envision what our kitchen will look like once we paint the cabinets. Wonderful job!

  19. Looking good! My kitchen is in progress right now for the lighter and brighter too. I am going w/ a black granite look laminate. My daughter has the same and it looks great in her kitchen. I have a few pics posted, but am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the counter tops next week. Love the white. It has transformed the look of your kitchen, and mine as well. Jackie
